Colonial Mutual Life Building, Corner Collins Street and Elizabeth Street, C.1959
From behind the statue ‘Charity being kind to the poor’ above the portico at the Colonial Mutual Life Building (formerly Equitable Life Assurance building) on the north west corner of Collins and Elizabeth Streets. The building was demolished in 1960.
The statue designed by Victor Tilgner and sculpted by Edward W Raht and cast in Vienna in 1893, was presented to Melbourne University.
