They run back from the south western corner with Gertrude Street.
They are opposite both the Champion and Rob Roy Hotels which occupy the south eastern and north western corners.
It was in 1856 that tenders were called for the construction of the block of six terrace houses.
They were designed by the architect Charles Laing and built for a prominent land owner and pastoralist named Hugh Glass, who had purchased the land in September 1853. The land had originally been auctioned in 1838, only three years after the white settlement of the city.
The stuccoed, bluestone terrace is somewhat unusual in that it has two three-storey houses at either end acting as bookends, flanking the four, two-storey houses. Original detailing was of the Regency style with arabesque panelled pilasters and Greek Revival window guards.
The northern-most structure, that nearest the camera, was occupied by Dr William Crooke: He lived there with his family and ran his surgery from there.
In 1882 balconies and wing walls were added to the terraces at first floor level. As a result of this Laing's original facade was camouflaged. The window openings of the original facade were retained however.
