Olinda Hotel, Lilydale, C.1872
The Olinda Hotel was built of Rosemount stone and D. Lithgow bricks by John Hutchinson on the 124 acre parcel of land he purchased at the Lilydale land sale of May 31, 1860. This land stretched from Cave Hill Road to Olinda Creek. On December 17, 1869 John marked out the site and on March 31, 1870 the foundation stone was laid. On Wednesday, March 15 1871 he moved from Warrandyte to the Olinda Hotel with his wife and 3 children.
