Flinders Street, C.1962
The magnificent Herald and Weekly Times building constructed in 1923, then extended in 1927. At number 36 Flinders Street centre right in the photo is radio station 3DB. 3DB was purchased by the HWT in 1929 from the Druleigh Business and Technical College from whence the station got its call sign. 3DB was moved from the Capitol Building in Swanston Street Melbourne to this building here in 1929. The twin radio masts atop the HWT building were constructed in 1932.
1966 sees 3DB move to the rear of the HWT building in Flinders Lane in new purpose built studios in the basement. The 3DB building here, and the one next to it on the right were demolished in 1966 to make way for extended loading docks for the HWT and a multi-story carpark soon after.
