The original "Hobsons Bay Railway Station" sometimes referred to as "Central Station" (The site of Flinders Street Railway Station) on the left of frame and Princes Bridge Hotel (Young & Jacksons, on the right).
Flinders Street is named after Matthew Flinders, an English explorer who sailed into Port Phillip in 1802 and later mapped the coast of Australia. Flinders Street is the southern border on Hoddle's original Grid, running from Spring Street to Wurundjeri Way (Docklands). Flinders Street runs parallel to the Yarra River, and serviced the cities first port.
