In Melbourne, 5,000 unionists marched in the May Day procession to the Yarra Bank. The march was split in two as traffic broke through it in Collins st. The second half arrived at Yarra Bank 10 minutes later. Thirty mothers wheeling prams carrying a placard, "Women unite to win world peace," received applause. A large number of New Australians took part in the procession. Crowds watching were larger than last year.
