Melbourne Zoo, C.1958
Here are some of the 700 rabbits which took up residence in the Melbourne Zoo during the weekend. Their owners, mainly children, brought them to the Zoo following the proclamation of a new law forbidding the keeping of pet rabbits. The Zoo set aside a special enclosure for them - and officials expect more to arrive this week. The Zoo's head keeper, Mr J. Gillespie, said he didn't think any would be destroyed unless the number of new arrivals reached "a ridiculous scale".
