Lygon Street, Carlton, C.1934
One of these terrace houses was the birthplace of Jeannie Taylor on 5 June 1870. The house was a nursing home at the time. An amazing woman, Jeannie Taylor is probably best remembered as the author of "We of the Never Never" which was published under her married name Mrs Aeneas Gunn. After six rejections, "We of the Never Never" was finally printed in 1908, but not before the publisher forced her to use the more masculine title of "Mrs Aeneas Gunn", fearing a female author would not generate as many sales as a male writer.
