Sunday and John Reed’s holiday house at Aspendale, designed by David McGlashan in 1961
In 1961 John and Sunday Reed asked David McGlashan to design a two-bedroom, pavilion-style beach house for them at bayside Aspendale.
Designed and built in just three months on a small piece of land fronting the sand dunes, it was inspired by the idea of a classic bathing box. McGlashan created two parallel, linked pavilions with a courtyard of sand between, supplying good cross ventilation, a suntrap and a safe area for Sunday’s holidaying Siamese cats!
