George Parade, C.1956
Former cottages and shops in George Parade (Known as La Trobe Parade until 1915), looking sth towards Flinders lane from Collins Street, the oldest probably 1840s (in fact they may all be, as it looks like a later second storey on the middle one), demolished not long after the first photo in 1956 for the sleek modernist thing at far left in the second, in a post-war development wave that largely wiped out what remained of the original settlement's remnant fabric, to our constant contemporary detriment.
The modernist number didn't last long.. It was demolished early 1980s and is today the rear of the Hyatt Hotel. Fortunately the former dwelling and warehouse on the right made it through to achieve protection today.
