Bourke Street, C.1948
Looking east down Bourke Street from just below Queen Street with the General Post Office (GPO) on the left at the Elizabeth Street corner - and Parliament House at the top of the hill on Spring Street, with the Spires of St Patricks Cathedral beyond.
Three Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board (MMTB) buses, including a Double-Decker, are heading west.
Melbourne’s last Cable Trams ran this route on October 26 1940 - the tracks and cable slot clearly visible - after which it converted to a bus route. The buses remained until the mid 1950s conversion to Electric Trams.
