Bridge Road, Richmond, C.1890

Bridge Road, Richmond, C.1890  From the then newly built Richmond Town Hall.

Bridge Road actually dates back to 1837, just 2 years after John Batman founded Melbourne as “the place for a village.” The first land sales there were recorded in 1839, a casual 182 years ago.

The majority of the surviving 19th-century buildings on Bridge Road are shops which date from the 1870s and 1880s.
