Batman's Hill, C.1860. 'Batman's Hill was situated at the western end of the original city grid and once overlooking the turning basin and the West Melbourne Swamp, Batmans Hill is today little more than a rise. The hill was partly levelled in 1863 - 65 for development of Spencer Street Railway Station' - The sign on the left says - 'Shortest way to Sandridge. Ferry one penny'.
