To his right, on the corner, is the Fink Building. This was gutted but rebuilt after the 1897 Great Fire of Melbourne, which wiped out most of the block to Swanston Street.
To his left, on the Flinders Lane corner, is the 12 storey Australia (APA) building. This was completed in 1889: the tallest building in Australia at the time. Note: It was NEVER the tallest building in the world, as some suggest.
Cable Trams ply the Elizabeth Street routes. These lines were electrified in 1935. Ahead on the right, the GPO clock tower.
